Fort Worth ISD’s new interim superintendent says it is time to step up and lead.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Karen Molinar’s goals are to improve student achievement and close the student achievement gap, reported WFAA.
“I think we need to look at that as ‘Okay, we need your help,’” Molinar said. “I look at Mayor [Mattie] Parker just sharing the passion that we have… that current outcomes for our students is not good enough.”
As reported by The Dallas Express, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker called for the complete revamping of the school district. The district has come under fire for only having 32% of its students scoring at grade level on the STAAR exam during the 2021-2022 school year.
“Those undersigned, and countless others, stand ready to continue to provide the resources necessary to see that flagship school district is the best urban school district in Texas, and ultimately the nation,” Parker wrote. “Together, we can create a future where our city continues to thrive, and every Fort Worth family can confidently choose our public schools, knowing their children will receive a world-class education.”
“We need to intervene quickly to look at our beginning-of-year data,” Molinar said, reported WFAA. “That’s the first action step is taking those resources and working with students. They’ll each have a case load where they’ll be assigned students, and we’ll track progress.”
Superintendent Angelica Ramsey stepped down from her position on October 1, but she will remain an employee of the school district until August 30, 2025.
