Fort Worth ISD officials are not taking action regarding the letters written by two coaches accusing Fort Worth Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck of abuse.
“We always encourage parents with concerns to first work with campus administration and the campus supervisor. The district also has a formal complaint process for parents who feel their concerns remain unresolved through Board Policy FNG(LOCAL). Additionally, campus staff should seek support from campus administration, the Executive Director, or Area Superintendent when working with a parent. Every stakeholder has the right to communicate with an elected official via email or other channels,” Media Relations Coordinator Cesar Padilla wrote to The Dallas Express.
As reported by The Dallas Express, FWISD Coach Carley Long claimed that Beck aimed to undermine her position, disrespected her team members, and harassed her due to the fact that Beck’s daughter skipped tryouts and was not selected for the team. In a different letter, Athletic Coordinator Akua P. Twumasi stated that Beck had also threatened her.
“In a phone call, she called me a ‘white skinny dumb bitch’ to my athletic director and let her know that she was coming for us. This type of behavior is not acceptable, and it shouldn’t be allowed for her to skip over the chain of command just because she is a councilwoman,” Long wrote.
Fort Worth ISD School board president Roxanne Martinez defended Beck and argued that “Beck was acting as a parent advocating for her student,” reported the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker thanked the two educators for speaking up.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank you for your role as an educator and coach for the next generation of female leaders in Fort Worth,” Parker wrote, reported KERA News.
“Please be encouraged, even on your most difficult days, by how much Fort Worth supports your hard work and dedication,” Parker added.
