The Dallas Stars have opened the 2024-25 season with three wins and zero losses, following a win over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night, making the Stars just one of five teams in the National Hockey League to remain undefeated through their first three games.

Dallas has now managed to shut out the New York Rangers and Kraken in back-to-back games, as goalies Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith are off to an impressive start to the season, saving 92 of the 95 shots on goal in their three games.

This impressive start by the team’s goalies has already put Dallas on track to shatter the number of shutouts they produced during the 2023-24 season, in which the team finished with a total of four shutouts in 82 games.

Oettinger and DeSmith have now become the first goalie duo in franchise history to post back-to-back shutouts, with DeSmith saying after Sunday’s game that the Stars are “playing the right way” to begin the year, according to NHL.com.

In addition to the hot start from the Stars’ pair of goalies, the team has also gotten meaningful contributions from those on offense, as four players on the team have already picked up at least three points to begin the season.

Left wing Mason Marchment has led the team with four total points coming from two goals and two assists while center Logan Stankoven has collected four assists in three games.

Similarly, centers Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston have each collected three total points to help the Stars claim the victories this season.

Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer said the team has focused on carrying the momentum from training camp into the season, adding that it “feels great” to see their work on display during games.

“We had a really good training camp and I think we’ve kind of carried that into the season. We’ve got some good structure in place. It’s not perfect, but it’s given us a chance to win every night. We’re getting great goaltending so that’s a good formula to win,” he added, according to NHL.com.

While the Stars are destined to lose games over the course of the season, the team will look to keep their undefeated streak alive with a matchup against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
