A North Texas pediatric medical assistant has been accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with multiple children during medical exams.
Irving Police arrested 25-year-old Angel Nunez on September 5 on one count of indecency with a child. Nunez worked at Little Spurs Pediatrics in Irving between August 2023 and August 2024.
The pediatric clinic notified law enforcement after learning that Nunez molested a 14-year-old boy.
According to the police affidavit obtained by Fox 4, the 14-year-old boy went to the clinic for a sports physical. Nunez reportedly took the boy to a second exam room away from his mother, saying it was for an eye exam.
The boy stated that once they were in the second exam room, Nunez told the child that he was going to perform a genitalia test and that the doctor would also perform one again once he was back with his mother. Security camera footage confirmed that Nunez took the boy to a separate room away from his mother.
The boy said that, at the time, he did not know there was something wrong with the first exam.
“Part of his duties were to take vitals and stuff, but he was not a physician himself,” said Irving Police Detective Andy Padrutt at a press conference.
Police confirmed that two other victims have been identified, including a nine-year-old and a 15-year-old boy. As of now, two of the victims were confirmed to be molested during what was supposed to be a sports physical exam.
Padrutt believes that more victims have yet to be identified.
In addition to the Irving Little Spurs Pediatrics location, Nunez has worked at locations in Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Fort Worth. He has also worked at other medical facilities before working at Little Spurs.
“Most of our victims are unaware that anything out of the ordinary happened during the exam. So, if parents could just have those tough conversations with them and go back and talk to them and say, ‘Hey, you were at this doctor’s office. What all happened? You know? What all did the doctor do?’” Padrutt said.
Nunez bonded out of jail on September 7, two days after his arrest. The investigation remains ongoing.
“We recently learned that an employee conducted a medical procedure beyond their scope of practice and outside of our established guidelines. As soon as we were made aware, we promptly reported the incident to Child Protective Services, launched an internal investigation, and terminated the employment of the employee in question,” said Little Spurs Pediatrics in a statement. “Law enforcement is continuing to investigate the former employee, and we are fully cooperating with their investigation.”
