A Fort Worth ISD high school is raising eyebrows because it is allowing an upcoming club to encourage students to design pride flags during lunchtime.

Southwest High School has allowed the Genders and Sexualities Alliance, previously known as the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club, to design pride flags during lunchtime on October 2.

Design Your Pride Flag!” JOIN THE SHS GSA ON WEDNESDAY OCT. 2ND DURING LUNCH TO DESIGN A FLAG THAT REPRESENTS YOU!” per the Southwest High School Facebook post.

The GSA is a group aimed to “build power” between the LGBTQ community and anyone straight.

GSAs “are student-run organizations that unite LGBTQ+ and allied youth to build community and organize around issues impacting them in their schools and communities. GSAs have evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in middle schools and high schools, and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice,” per the GSA Network website.

The announcement has garnered public criticism from local elected officials and even a statewide official.

“Vile propaganda,” Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller posted on X.

“This is for minors. Think about that. Kids” posted Tarrant County Republican Chairman Bo French on X.

“These Marxists in our schools have started a war without thinking about the consequences. They are going to learn very quickly that parents are going to rise up and put an end to this dangerous ideology,” French continued.

State Rep. Nate Schatzline posted on X that Fort Worth ISD is indoctrinating kids with this event.

The Dallas Express contacted Southwest High School Principal John Engel and Superintendent Angélica Ramsey but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
