The Fort Worth ISD school board voted 8-1 to accept the resignation of Superintendent Angelica Ramsey.
Parents and teachers lambasted Dr. Ramsey’s leadership in the build-up to the resignation. One concern was the reliability of the district’s transportation, which led to some students missing class time.
“Is it okay for special needs students to miss every first period for an entire week? Because it is starting to be a real problem, and it’s not going away. We are now in ‘Ards’ where parents are saying this busing issue is causing a problem with our students,” FWISD science teacher Scott Blanco-Davis told the board.
Other teachers slammed the superintendent and board for failing to listen.
“We have been telling you over and over what needs to change, yet you’ve ignored us,” FWISD teacher Meghan Breedlove said during public comment.
“Instead of requiring students to behave appropriately and work hard so that top-notch instruction can take place, you provide scripted lessons to tell us exactly what to say,” Breedlove said.
Fort Worth ISD Board President Roxanne Martinez provided comments at the end of the meeting.
“We want to thank Dr. Ramsey for her service to Fort Worth ISD at this time. The board will, of course, be moving forward with our commitment and focus on student outcomes and improving student achievement,” Martinez said.
“Hearing community concerns was a large part of why I made the decision,” Martinez added.
Martinez said that her focus will be on improving student outcomes and on students.
