The Lone Star State has many perks, but on-time package deliveries are apparently not one of them, according to a recent study by online retailer Overnight Glasses.
Overnight Glasses is undoubtedly keen on prompt package delivery since the company promises to deliver eyeglasses to customers within 24 hours.
The company reviewed freight flow per capita data, U.S. Postal Service performance, and internet searches for delayed or lost packages, ranking the states with the best and worst delivery records. Texas ranked fifth worst for on-time deliveries.
Of course, everything is bigger in Texas, which creates logistical challenges for delivery services. Texas, the second-largest state in the U.S., just behind Alaska, encompasses 268,596 square miles, so that is a lot of ground for Amazon, UPS, FedEx, and USPS delivery drivers to cover.
Texas is also the second-largest state in the United States by population, with 31 million residents. This large population means that a significant number of people in the state could be ordering packages at any given time. Additionally, Texas has the highest freight flow of any state, totaling $3.64 billion.
According to the report, the USPS performance rate in Texas averages 65%, while the search engine ranking for delayed or missing packages is 85.
However, four other states appear to have more package delivery issues than Texas. The worst state for package deliveries in the U.S. is North Dakota, which has a population of only 783,000 people and a freight flow of $277 million. It was unclear what issues North Dakota has with its deliveries, but one could speculate that snow would be a factor.
Georgia was the second-worst state for deliveries, followed by Illinois at No. 3 and New York at No. 4. Wyoming at No. 6, Washington at No. 7, Virginia (No. 8), Massachusetts (No. 9), and South Carolina (No. 10) rounded out the top ten worst states for deliveries.
On the other hand, the best states for on-time package delivery are Hawaii, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Maryland, and Mississippi, in that order.
