Slip into your lederhosen or dress up in your dirndl and practice the Chicken Dance because Addison Oktoberfest kicks off this weekend, bringing “German fare with a side of Texas flair” to the metroplex.
The four-day festival at Addison Circle Park starts at 5 p.m. Thursday and runs through Sunday, September 22. It will feature plenty of food, music, fun, and games for the entire family.
Attendees can enjoy a variety of authentic German foods and desserts, such as bratwurst, skillet potatoes, chicken schnitzel, schweineschnitzel with spatzle, frankfurters with sauerkraut, latkes, Black Forest cake, and streuselkuchen. More traditional festival fare will also be available, including funnel cakes, roasted corn, turkey legs, corn dogs, and garlic parmesan curly fries, to name just a few of the offerings.
Of course, there will be a Biergarten for the grownups, featuring a number of authentic German beers and craft beers from local Texas breweries. Kids can quench their thirst at the Root Biergarten.
The festival has a packed schedule of music, games, and other entertainment, which will play out at various tents and stages throughout the park venue. Of course, it wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without polka music, but artists from other musical genres will also be performing. A full listing of the activities and entertainment can be found on the event website so you can plan your visit accordingly.
More than a dozen vendors will be on hand at the Marktplatz, selling food, clothes, unique gift items, artwork, steins, Alpine hats, and more.
Other activities for the family include a Silent Disco, arts and crafts for the kids, arcade games, a Dachsund Dash, and carnival rides. Sunday is bring-your-hund day — any variety — but all dogs must be leashed and picked up after.
Admission to Addison Oktoberfest is free on Thursday evening. Tickets for each of the remaining three days range in price from $5 to $25. Attendees are encouraged to purchase their tickets online in advance for quicker and easier admission.
