Fort Worth ISD posted over the weekend that it would be holding a special Tuesday meeting, and it appears Superintendent Angélica Ramsey’s performance will be at least one of the subjects up for discussion.
“Deliberation Regarding the Appointment, Employment, Evaluation, Reassignment, Duties, Discipline, or Dismissal of Public Officer or Employee, Including, but Not Limited to Action Items Related to the Recommendation to Terminate Certain Continuing Contract Employees for Good Cause, the Recommendation to Terminate Certain Term Employees for Good Cause and the Recommendation to Terminate Certain Probationary Contract Employees for Good Cause,” the agenda item reads.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, local elected officials have criticized the school district for its poor academic performance.
“The data tells a sobering story: our district has consistently lagged behind other large Texas school systems,” Mayor Mattie Parker wrote in a letter to the school board in August.
“In Spring 2024, our students trailed 11 percentage points behind Dallas ISD, 14 behind Houston ISD, and 18 behind Brownsville ISD. Furthermore, when we look at the 24 public school systems serving more than 20,000 students in Texas with a similar student population, Fort Worth ISD is ranked third from the bottom at number 22 out of 24 districts, a 25 percentage point gap from the top of the list,” Parker said.
The school board president reportedly said that complaints about Ramsey have been raised by other board members. Additionally, outside legal counsel has been secured to communicate with the embattled superintendent.
“I’ve been hearing from a lot of teachers who have been really frustrated for a while with the direction the district’s going. Can it all be placed on the feet of Dr. Ramsey? Not necessarily so, but she’s also the superintendent,” local teachers union president Steven Poole told NBC 5.
