Last week, The Texan reported on the Denton Public Library using taxpayer dollars to host a “Rainbow Family Storytime” for children ages 2 to 8. These events are also known as “transgender storytime.”
Republican gubernatorial candidate Don Huffines immediately commented on this development and published a statement on his website.
He called on the City of Denton to cancel the event and fire the employees who gave the green light to the event.
Huffines’ statement came after his campaign discovered that one of Texas’ state agencies, under Governor Greg Abbott’s watch, featured content on its website that celebrated “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender… youth, their peers, and family.” The content has seen been removed from the website.
This discovery occurred when there have been several reports of books with pornographic content being found in public school libraries statewide.
Huffines made the following statement: “Texas libraries are supposed to be places where Texans can read and learn, not spaces where public employees take the innocence of kids and replace it with Leftist sexual indoctrination. I am calling on the City of Denton to cancel ‘transgender storytime’ and fire the library employees who approved the event. Clearly, these individuals have lost the public’s trust.”
According to the website, the event has since been canceled “due to safety concerns.” It was set to occur on November 20, Transgender Remembrance Day.
The day was launched to honor “the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence,” according to GLAAD’s website.
The National Center for Transgender Equality website states, “Transgender people face extraordinary levels of physical and sexual violence, whether on the streets, at school or work, at home, or at the hands of government officials.”
