(Texas Scorecard) – A Harris County judge set a $7 million bond, at the request of prosecutors, for the man who allegedly carjacked and killed a 90-year-old Houston veteran outside of his senior living apartment complex. The alleged perpetrator was out on bond at the time of the incident.
On Saturday, 21-year-old Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux allegedly pistol-whipped, shot, and then ran over the body of Nelson Beckett before fleeing with his vehicle. The deadly carjacking took place at Beckett’s apartment. The victim’s vehicle was found 10 minutes away at another apartment complex where Arceneaux appears to have attempted to clean the vehicle. Investigators say two men witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene, but Arceneaux threatened them with his gun.
Arceneaux has been charged with capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. He was arrested and booked into the Harris County jail on Wednesday.
According to Fox 26, at the time of the murder, he was out on bond for evading a driving under the influence stop in 2021. Arceneaux’s bond was reportedly forfeited in June but ultimately reinstated, and he agreed to plead guilty in the case the day before Beckett’s murder.
Investigators have not yet said what led them to Arceneaux, but during the search, Gov. Greg Abbott and Houston Crimestoppers offered up to a $15,000 award for his arrest.
