The popular ice cream shop MELT has announced that its downtown Fort Worth location will close.

“As of September 8th, we’ll be closing our beloved Sundance Square scoop shop. We’ve created so many happy memories with our downtown community and are grateful for your support over the years. Though this location is closing, our other shops remain open and we’re excited to share upcoming developments in downtown Fort Worth. We invite everyone to visit our Sundance Square scoop shop one last time to celebrate the end of this chapter with us and say goodbye to our incredible staff at this shop,” MELT posted on Facebook.

MELT was founded in 2014 and has roots in the metroplex.

“In 2014, MELT founder Kari Crowe-Seher figured out what was missing from DFW: premium small batch, high-quality ice cream! Our house made ice creams are made with a high percentage of butterfat to give them a depth of creaminess, they are made in limited batches with the highest quality dairy and all-natural ingredients. We make every inclusion by hand, and we bake every cookie with recipes we’ve developed using only the best ingredients we can get our hands on,” the company’s website states.

MELT is not the only business to say goodbye to Sundance Square. As The Dallas Express previously reported, other businesses, such as Four Day Weekend, have also left.

People from the community have reacted to the news about MELT, with many blaming Sasha Bass. Billionaires Ed and Sasha Bass have solely owned Sundance Square since 2019, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“That whole row will be empty, Four Day Weekend, Reatta, and now Melt. I’ve worked in downtown FW for 22 years. This is the most empty it’s ever been, just disappointed with how Sasha Bass has ruined everything,” Kim Collins wrote in response to MELT’s Facebook announcement.

“Bass’s built downtown and Sasha brings it down, she’s ridiculous soon there will be no Sundance Square thanks to her!” added Jeff Smith.

Others are hopeful MELT will scoop up and come their way.

“Come to South Lake!” posted Renee Monaco.

“Come up to Alliance or Keller!” added Jon Heathman.
