Gunfire erupted at a northern Georgia high school on Wednesday morning, leaving at least four dead and nearly 30 others injured.
CNN reported shots rang out around 10:30 a.m. at Apalachee High School in Winder, which is about 45-minutes outside Atlanta.
A suspect, who is reportedly of student age, was taken into custody, the New York Post reported. It was not clear if the suspect attended the school.
At an afternoon press conference, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith declined to provide details about the suspect or victims.
“We are asking for your patience … please let us get the facts that we need to make sure we get this right,” Smith told reporters, according to the Post. “This is going to take multiple days for us to get answers as to what happened and why this happened.”
Law enforcement descended on the school at 10:30 a.m.
At least two people were seen being loaded into medical helicopters and evacuated, FOX5 said.
Authorities had secured the school and students began being evacuated at 11:30 a.m., the Post reported.
