It’s been nearly two years since Airbnb announced the winners of its OMG! Fund.

Each of the 100 winners received an award worth up to $100,000 to bring his wild and unique home idea to life, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

The OMG! selection committee reviewed thousands of proposals before choosing the winners. The panel of judges included several industry notables, such as Koichi Takada, a professional architect based in Sydney; Bruce Vaughn, Airbnb’s Vice-President of Experiential Creative Product; Iris Apfel, an American style icon; and Kristie Wolfe, an Airbnb Superhost guru.

Ty and Katie Grant of Aubrey were among the winners selected. With their prize, they built The Nut House — an Airbnb guesthouse shaped like an acorn.

“The Nut House is a one of a kind large acorn suspended up amongst the trees. While staying in the worlds largest acorn you will be fully immersed in nature. You can sit on the porch and listen to the sounds of the birds and see clear creek flowing by. You will have a once in a lifetime getaway only min away from downtown Denton in one of the top 100 OMG Airbnb winners,” reads the description on Airbnb.

The Denton Record-Chronicle reports on the new addition to Texas Airbnb options. Here’s the start of the story:

Located a few minutes northeast of Denton in Aubrey, guests can now book a stay at the world’s largest acorn-style Airbnb.

The Nut House is a one-of-a-kind acorn-shaped Airbnb where guests can hunker down inside or explore the 15 acres of private land for fishing, hiking, building campfires and more.

Local couple Ty and Katie Grant submitted the concept and were selected as among the top 100 OMG! Airbnb winners, which won them up to $100,000 to go toward building the house.

Ty Grant said they thought of a tree-style Airbnb but wanted to avoid doing something that had been done before. Participants could only submit ideas that didn’t exist.

They went to the land they owned and thought about what was already up in the trees.

“So we said, let’s just blend it in with nature and build a giant acorn that blends in with the trees,” Ty Grant said.
