A young man’s body was recovered from Lewisville Lake on Monday, one day after he reportedly jumped into the war and failed to come back up.
Holiday weekends often see an increase in drowning incidents due to an increase in water-related activities. People spend more time swimming, boating, or near water, often without sufficient supervision or safety measures. While it is unclear what factors figured into this weekend’s tragedy, alcohol consumption, particularly among adults, further increases the risk.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the bodies of two men were recovered from Lake Ray Hubbard the day after the Fourth of July. A Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson had said 911 callers reported that multiple swimmers had jumped off a boat into the lake, but two did not resurface.
Here is some of what NBC 5 DFW reported on the young man who died in Lewisville Lake:
The body of a boater who jumped into Lake Lewisville Sunday evening for a swim and did not resurface was recovered Monday night.
Texas Game Wardens and the Lewisville Fire Department were called to a possible drowning at Lake Lewisville at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Initial reports indicate a 23-year-old man rented a boat with some friends and jumped into the lake for a swim. According to the Texas Game Warden, he was last seen going underwater in an area around 45 feet deep.
The search lasted into Sunday evening and resumed Monday morning with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers joining the recovery effort.
