Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the suspension of his presidential campaign and endorsed former President Donald Trump during an event in Los Angeles on Friday.
“I would need a team of attorneys and over a million dollars [to continue],” Kennedy said, explaining that the Democratic National Committee was committed to waging “continual legal warfare against both President Trump and myself.”
During his address, Kennedy called the legacy media “[Democrat] party organs” and condemned the industry for republishing alleged government propaganda and becoming “government mouthpieces.”
He supported his accusation in part by identifying the media’s inaction in covering his successful injunction against President Joe Biden over the administration’s opening of an online portal that federal agencies could use to communicate with social media platforms to censor COVID-vaccine-mandate dissidents like himself. He also claimed Facebook had censored efforts to get him into the presidential debates.
Kennedy condemned the war in Ukraine as a “neocon military venture” and claimed that the U.S.-backed effort was de-industrializing Europe and devaluing the dollar. He said he viewed Vice President Kamala Harris as a politician who would do nothing but reinforce these efforts if voted into the presidency.
He also referenced the alleged “palace coup” against Biden that followed the president’s disastrous debate performance and he condemned the Democratic Party for essentially installing Harris as the nominee without a primary vote.
“Instead of showing us her substance and character, the DNC arranged a media surge,” Kennedy said in a dual criticism of the media and left-wing political establishment.
The audience appeared to still be enthusiastic for the son of slain 1968 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy.
When he said, “I could conceivably still end up in the White House in a contingent election,” the audience cheered and clapped.
Contingent elections occur when no presidential candidate gets 270 electoral votes. The president is then selected by the House of Representatives voting en bloc.
Regarding his endorsement of Trump, Kennedy explained that the former president’s adoption of his positions on ending the childhood disease epidemic and “forever war,” promoting free speech, and reigning in federal agencies brought the two men together.
While Trump and Kennedy had met several times, including via telephone in one conversation that was leaked, Kennedy said Harris refused to meet with him.
Kennedy confirmed previous speculation that he would serve in some capacity in a potential second Trump administration. There has been widespread speculation by pro-Trump and pro-Kennedy social media accounts that he would be tapped for CIA director.
Many also believe his former running mate and scientist Nicole Shanahan may be selected for FDA director.
With this, he gave Trump his endorsement. Then Trump took to a stage in neighboring Nevada.
“We just had a very nice endorsement from RFK Jr.,” Trump said in a speech that slightly overlapped in time slots with Kennedy’s.
“I just want to thank Bobby, he’s a great guy, respected by everybody,” the former president said.
