Three members of the Fort Worth City Council are being called out for not attending the funeral of Sgt. Billy Randolph, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.
“City of Fort Worth three Council members, often referred to as the ‘Fort Worth Squad’ — Chris Nettles, Jared Williams, and Elizabeth Beck — FAIL to attend Sergeant Bill Randolph’s funeral,” wrote Jimmy Pollozani, the president of the Fort Worth Brotherhood of the Fallen, in a since-deleted Facebook post.
“Their absence at this crucial moment reflects poorly on their commitment to honoring those who serve THEIR community. We owe it to our heroes to show up and pay our respects,” Pollozani wrote.
Nettles replied to Pollozani’s post in a since-deleted comment, writing, “If you got something to say, Say It To My Face!”
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the funeral service for Sgt. Billy Randolph, a 29-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department and a U.S. Air Force veteran, was held at the Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth on Saturday morning.
Randolph died on August 12 while helping manage traffic at the site of a fiery 18-wheeler collision, The Dallas Express reported. He was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on an I-35W off-ramp.
“The truth matters and people need to know who represents them on the Fort Worth city council,” Lori Anne McElyea posted on Facebook in regard to Pollozani’s post.
“Imagine being elected by voters to serve on the City Council and then espousing anti-police views. Police go to work every day to protect these very constituents. There is clearly a disconnect here that needs to be rectified. City of Fort Worth elections are in May, and I plan to be very involved,” Tarrant County Republican Chairman Bo French told The Dallas Express.
The Dallas Express reached out to Council Members Beck, Williams, and Nettles for comment but did not receive a response.
