Three adults and two children were killed in a fiery crash in Fort Worth early Monday morning that shut down northbound traffic for more than five hours.
The crash occurred shortly after midnight on I-35W near Seminary Drive. Witnesses told the Fort Worth police that a black Chevrolet Camaro was traveling northbound on the freeway at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a sedan. The sedan was pushed into a wall and caught fire. All five occupants of the sedan were killed, according to the ambulance service MedStar, The Dallas Morning News reported.
The driver of the Camaro was injured and transported to the hospital, where he was reported to be in good condition.
“We do have witnesses to the accident. They’re being interviewed now. Basically, they saw the accident and called 911. We were dispatched out here, and that’s where we stand right now,” Capt. Raymond Bush of the Fort Worth Police Department said, per Fox 4 KDFW.
Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. Authorities have not released any information on the identities of the dead and injured. No arrests have been made in connection with the crash.
Northbound traffic on I-35W between Seminary and Loop 820 was shut down following the crash, but the roadway was reopened after the scene was cleared at about 5:30 a.m.
