The 2024 Paris Olympics are wrapping up this weekend after more than two weeks of games as Team USA leads all countries for the most medals and has officially crossed the 100-medal threshold.
These Olympics started out in an unflattering fashion after Paris was criticized heavily for an opening ceremony that included an alleged parody of Leonardo Da Vinci’s famous painting The Last Supper. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, many Christians spoke out regarding the controversial pageantry.
However, the controversy seemingly did not impact Team USA’s athletes.
Team USA currently sits in first place for the most overall medals, leading all countries in the number of silver and bronze medals won while trailing only China for the most gold medals.
Entering Saturday’s final day of competition, Team USA had accumulated an impressive 113 medals across 30 different sports.
Team USA has now eclipsed the 100-medal mark in six straight Olympics dating back to the 2004 Games in Athens, and it has won more than 100 medals in nine of the last 11 games.
The Americans had the most success this year in both track and field and swimming portions of the Olympics, winning a total of 57 medals and breaking multiple world records in the process.
These performances included swimmers and track athletes, bringing home a combined 19 gold medals, 23 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals.
The final day of the Olympics will offer Team USA many opportunities to add more medals to its collection. According to USA Today, 52 Olympic medals will be handed out on the final day of competition.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will face off against the French national teams for a chance to win the gold.
Additionally, the Team USA women’s national soccer team will face off against Brazil for the gold medal following a close overtime win against Germany, as reported by DX. This matchup is the first time the USWNT has made the gold medal match in soccer since the 2012 London Olympics. A win would give the team its fifth gold medal since the program began.
There will be a few medal matches on Sunday morning, but the 2024 Paris Olympics will officially be completed following the closing ceremony, according to CBS News.
