District 2 City Council Member Jesse Moreno recently visited Haven for Hope, San Antonio’s one-stop shop for temporary housing and social services for homeless individuals and families.

The nonprofit operates a “Transformational Campus” where case managers work one-on-one with those experiencing homelessness to connect them with the services they need to get back on their feet.

“Haven for Hope is addressing the root cause of homelessness by offering tailored programs to the specific needs of those struggling with being unsheltered,” Moreno said in a social media post. “We understand that the cause of homelessness is not one dimensional.”

“This is why Haven for Hope offers safe low-barriers shelter, case management, mental health services, transformational housing along with long term housing. All on one campus,” Moreno added.

Moreno posted photos of Haven for Hope’s facilities and a map of the organization’s massive campus. The San Antonio organization’s grounds include a restoration center, resource center, hair care center, family activity center, volunteer center, kennel, medical centers, and residential areas.

Unlike other homeless service providers, Haven for Hope aims to provide more than emergency housing. It also offers counseling, job training, educational programming, and a host of other services.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, an economic impact report credited Haven for Hope with reducing unsheltered homelessness in San Antonio’s downtown area by 77% since it first opened.

Polling conducted by DX indicates that around 75% of Dallas residents think homelessness, vagrancy, and aggressive panhandling are “major” problems in the City. Respondents also appeared to generally support Haven for Hope’s homeless services model.

A similar initiative was recently highlighted on The Dallas Express Podcast. It is called Refuge for Renewal.

“Our mission is simple:  to materially reduce the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Dallas County by providing a wide breadth of services in a single location,” the group’s website states.
