X marks the spot — or maybe past tweets mark the trail.

That certainly seems to be the case with Tim Walz, the new Democratic vice presidential pick, who is a prolific user of social media.

Vice President Kamala Harris’s selection of the Minnesota governor as her running mate has prompted a review of his social media history regarding Texas.

Walz has a long history of tweeting about various current events in Texas. His tweets often swing between competitive jabs, criticism, and consoling. They began in his final years as a congressman and continued until 2023.

In 2023, when Texas was bested in CNBC rankings for top states to do business, the governor tweeted, “New Year’s resolution: Keep beating Texas.”

However, the governor would not be able to keep his resolution.

The Lone Star State bested Minnesota on the 2024 version of the list. Texas captured third while the Land of 10,000 Lakes plummeted to sixth.

These tweets came as American Experiment analyzed census data, revealing that a substantial portion of Minnesotans were fleeing the state for Florida, Arizona, and Texas.

However, Walz struck a softer tone during the 2022 Colleyville hostage crisis. He said he and his wife were “praying for the safety” of the hostages.

He also noted that “Jewish Americans must be able to practice their faith without fear or hate.”

Ultimately, the Muslim attacker was killed, and his hostages were freed without injury.

“I am watching the news coming out of Texas in horror. This cannot continue. Minnesota grieves with the parents and families of every child who was shot and killed in Uvalde today,” the governor tweeted.

Tragically, 19 children and 2 adults were killed in the deadliest shooting at a Texas public school at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on May 24, 2022. The siege of the elementary school lasted for several hours with inaction from multiple law enforcement agencies until the shooter was neutralized by a Border Patrol Unit.

Before Dobbs v. Jackson (2022), the Supreme Court case overturning Roe v Wade (1973) was handed down, the Texas legislature was working to narrow the window when women could seek abortions.

The legislature passed a “heartbeat bill,” otherwise known as SB 8, in 2021. The law prohibited abortions at the point at which fetal heartbeats can be detected, which is often around 6 weeks into a pregnancy. At the time, it was regarded as the strictest state abortion law in the nation.

“What’s happening in Texas is a blatant violation of a woman’s right to choose. I will never allow that to happen here in Minnesota,” he tweeted.

Mourning Texas congressman Sam Johnson’s (D-TX) death, Walz tweeted “It was an honor to co-chair the POW/MIA Commission in Congress with Sam Johnson. He was a true patriot, gentleman, and friend.”

In recent days, some, including Trump’s running mate JD Vance (R-Ohio), have begun to question Walz’s claims of military service, with the Ohio senator accusing the governor of “stolen valor.”

Walz also celebrated Juneteenth, back when it was just a Texas holiday celebrating the emancipation of Texas slaves.

He also praised the Minnesota National Guard for traveling to help the Lone Star State during Hurricane Harvey, when he was a congressman.

Walz’s candidacy has been enthusiastically supported by Texas Democrats. The Stonewall Democratic Conference issued an open letter in support of this candidacy.

Other leftwing figures have thought a Harris-Walz ticket would help Democrat Senate candidates like Colin Allred in Texas.

“Harris/Walz ticket is good news for @ColinAllredTX too. Allred can run his own campaign against vile hyperpartisan Trump lapdog @tedcruz with a more popular & mainstream national Dem ticket than any TX statewide Dem candidate since Clinton/Gore ticket in ’92,” Matt Angle of the left-wing Lone Star project tweeted.
