The Texas Rangers will officially commemorate the 2023 World Series championship on Thursday during a visit to the White House to meet with President Joe Biden.
The Rangers made an incredible run through the postseason before meeting the Arizona Diamondbacks in the final series of the year. After defeating the Diamondbacks in five games, the Rangers won the first World Series in franchise history, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The team traveled to Washington, D.C., on August 7 following an afternoon game against the Houston Astros, which the Rangers lost 6-4.
General manager Chris Young and manager Bruce Bochy, along with the rest of the coaching staff, players, and field staff who were members of the 2023 championship team, will make the trip, per the MLB.
Bochy said this visit is “symbolic of what we accomplished the year before,” adding that moments such as these demonstrate how “winning the World Series is the gift that keeps on giving,” he explained, reported The Dallas Morning News.
Bochy is no stranger to these trips. After leading the San Francisco Giants to three World Series victories, he had the opportunity to visit President Barack Obama at the White House multiple times.
“A traditional White House visit, spend some time there and get a tour of the White House. Two times I’ve been, we did it indoors. Another time, we did it outdoors. It is a beautiful place. A historic moment for baseball. Only one team gets to do it,” Bochy said.
“I’d been to the White House, going to school there in North Virginia on field trips, but to go there as part of a baseball tradition, winning the World Series, that was really cool for me,” he added, according to DMN. “Being in the Red Room with President Obama, just he and I sitting there talking baseball and sports. That was pretty cool.”
While the Rangers will be in the nation’s capital on August 8, they will quickly have to switch their focus back to the current season as they fight to make another playoff run.
Following their visit, the Rangers will travel to New York to begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees, followed by another three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.
The Rangers will have to begin consistently stacking wins to catch up to the Seattle Mariners in the American League West division. The Mariners currently sit five games ahead of the Rangers for the lead.
