An angel may have been on the job with a Tarrant County deputy Wednesday when he was shot three times while serving a warrant in Haltom City.

Thankfully, officials say the deputy’s wounds are not considered life-threatening. However, multiple media reports say surgery is needed.

Law Enforcement officials flooded the neighborhood in the aftermath of the 1 p.m. and residents were told to shelter in place.

Many area residents have been able to watch the unfolding drama as news helicopters circled the scene.

WFAA was one area station with a chopper on scene as they tracked the story:

A Tarrant County deputy was shot three times while serving a warrant in the Haltom City area Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare said the deputy’s injuries were non-life threatening and he was at the hospital.

“This is another stark reminder of the dangers faced and sacrifices made by the law enforcement community on a daily basis to keep all of us safe,” O’Hare posted on social media.

Shortly after 1 p.m., Haltom City police issued a shelter-in-place order related to the shooting for residents between Chesser Boyer Road and 28th Street. Police said they were reportedly engaging with an armed suspect. Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office says it is working an active scene in the 2900 block of Elinor Street along with partner agencies.

The Haltom City Police Department was asking residents to not go near the area and shelter in place now.

Dozens of police units, including many from Fort Worth police, have responded to the scene.
