The Texas Longhorns have a big season ahead of them following the publication of a poll that is setting some high expectations.
The US LBM Coaches Poll, a preseason poll that was released on Monday, ranked the Longhorns as the fourth-best college football team in the country.
Randomly selected head coaches across the United States participate in the poll to rank the top 25 schools before the college football season. The poll is followed by updated rankings released each week throughout the season.
Last season was the Longhorns’ final run as members of the Big 12 Conference. The team will now be joining the SEC alongside Oklahoma this upcoming season, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The Longhorns ended their chapter in the Big 12 by winning the conference title for the first time since 2009 and making their first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoffs, DX reported.
With both Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC this year, the teams will have a chance to prove themselves to their new competition.
A longtime rivalry between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Longhorns is set to officially start back up as well. The teams are slated to play one another on November 30 for the first time since 2011.
The full list of the top 25 universities includes eight SEC schools, six Big 10 schools, five Big 12 schools, and four ACC schools.
The poll also includes institutions that received some, but not enough, votes to make the cut for the top 25.
Among those on that list is SMU, which recently joined the ACC. SMU received 47 votes. Texas Tech, a current member of the Big 12, received our votes.
The complete list of schools that made the top 25, along with universities that received votes but did not rank among the top 25, can be found here.
