President Joe Biden’s announcement that he is dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president was met with mixed reactions by Texas politicians.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote in a letter posted on X.

Sen. John Cornyn (R) had some choice words in response.

“If Dems think trading Biden for his failed Border Czar is going to change anything, they’re dreaming,” Cornyn said on X. “Under her ‘leadership,’ criminals and terrorists stream across our wide-open border & fentanyl continues to kill thousands of innocent Americans.”

“If she can’t fix the border, how is she going to run the country? Kamala Harris is even more radical, more extreme and less competent than Joe Biden,” he added, “And if Pres. Biden is not competent to run for reelection, he should step down from the presidency.”

For his part, Sen. Ted Cruz (R) posted a picture of Richard Nixon in response to Biden’s announcement. Nixon resigned from the presidency in 1974 amid the Watergate Scandal.

Texas Democrats had a decidedly different reaction. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D), for instance, lamented the president’s decision and seemingly blamed members of her party.

“Well I hope the geniuses that pushed the most consequential President of our lifetime out, have a plan,” Crockett posted on X. “WHO in the hell couldn’t sell the MF Accomplishments & win over a 34 time convicted Felon who isn’t even allowed to operate businesses in the state of NY (and therefore should automatically be disallowed from say running the country) & his ENTIRE team IS project 2025?!”

“Joe wasn’t the problem… dems were,” she added.

Rep. Colin Allred (D) was more restrained in his comments.

“I thank President @JoeBiden for his service and his willingness to put country before self. It’s something we need more of in our politics. My sincere hope is that this moment brings our nation one step closer to healing, uniting and fixing our broken politics,” Allred said in an X post.
