Tarrant County delegates at the Republican National Convention have been relaying their reactions to former President Donald Trump’s decision to make Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Vance his running mate.

Vance was first elected to the Senate in 2022 and is the author of Hillbilly Elegy, a best-selling memoir depicting his life growing up in rural West Virginia and Ohio.

“J.D. Vance is a phenomenal pick! I like the stark contrast of a billionaire mogul to someone from a self-proclaimed hillbilly upbringing,” Tarrant County Republican precinct chair and RNC delegate Rosalie Escobedo told The Dallas Express.

Escobedo said she believes the duo constitute a “winning ticket” for the Republican Party.

“I like the juxtaposition of Trump’s experience and business acumen to Vance’s youth and military prowess. Both exude strength, resolve, vision, and the fire to take back our country,” she said.

Tarrant County Republican Chairman Bo French echoed Escobedo’s remarks, noting that Vance was an outstanding choice.

“The great strength of the Republican Party is the depth of talent we have on our bench. Any of the most talked about potential VP picks would have been more than qualified,” French told DX.

“That said, J.D. Vance is an outstanding choice. He brings military experience, youth, and he is incredibly articulate. I can’t wait for him to carry the America First torch for years to come,” French said.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Trump made the announcement that he was picking Vance on Truth Social on Monday.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” the 45th president announced on his social media platform.
