The MLB All-Star game will take place on July 16 in Arlington, and the reigning World Series Champion Texas Rangers will have two players participating.
The MLB announced in July 2023 that Globe Life Field and Arlington will host the 2024 All-Star Week for the first time since 1995.
Festivities for All-Star Week include the All-Star Futures Game on Saturday and the Home Run Derby on Monday, July 15.
As reigning American and National League Champions, the Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks’ coaching staffs will be tasked with managing the All-Star teams during the Midsummer Classic.
Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien and closer Kirby Yates were each selected to represent Texas on the American League All-Star Team. These All-Star selections mark the third for Semien and the second for Yates.
Semien has now become the second Rangers position player since 2013 to be selected to the All-Star Game in consecutive seasons, joining just Corey Seager in 2022 and 2023 in the feat, per MLB.
Despite the 2024 season being considered a down year for Semien thus far, the second baseman has put together a .229 hitting average and .295 OBP, alongside an OPS of .673 through the first half of the season.
The 12-year veteran has also accumulated 83 hits, 12 home runs, and 47 RBIs while being one of the best defensive players in the entire league.
He currently trails just Jose Altuve for the best fielding percentage among second basemen in the American League at .992, picking up just three errors in 362 chances.
Semien has also continued his yearly trend of rarely missing time due to injury, playing in all 88 of the Rangers games so far in the 2024 season after playing in 485 out of 486 regular season games in the three previous seasons with the Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays.
Joining Semien as a Rangers representative is Yates, who is in his first season with Texas after playing for the Atlanta Braves during the 2023 season.
Yates has been more than an effective closer for the Rangers throughout the season. He currently has a 3-1 record and 13 saves in every opportunity he has been given.
The closer has pitched 31.1 innings through his 31 total appearances this season, allowing opposing teams to pick up just 13 hits and only three earned runs.
Rangers pitcher Michael Lorenzen described Yates’ season as “incredible,” saying that the pitcher deserved his selection to the game.
“When you have under a one ERA, like you should be an All-Star, I don’t care who you are,” he said, according to MLB.
Yates has now become the first Texas relief pitcher to be selected for the game since Joe Nathan in 2013 and will also be the fifth oldest Rangers player of all time to be selected at 37 years and 113 days old when the game takes place, per The MLB.
The first pitch for the 94th MLB All-Star Game is currently scheduled to take place at 7:15 on game day. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
