Despite social media support, two metroplex dessert shops were forced to close their doors, as restaurants struggle during slow months.
Chip’d Hot Cookie Nachos, a Fort Worth cookie bakery, specializes in cookie nacho creations featuring warm chocolate chip cookies topped with ice cream and sauces. Although the storefront location in Fort Worth will no longer be in operation, the small business plans to continue operating out of its Aledo food truck.
Chip’d opened its doors in 2023 with a storefront location at 2340 Forest Park Boulevard. The innovative dessert shop replaced a popular bakery, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The cookie shop has suffered since nearly the beginning of its storefront operation, per TCU 360. It began asking members of the community to support its business back in August 2023 and almost closed in February.
The owners tried everything, from deals and promotions to marketing initiatives and new flavors, but in the end, nothing could save their business.
“After lots of hard consideration and months and months of struggling to keep the doors open we have made the decision to close the Chip’d shop permanently,” the company posted on Instagram. “The Chip’d truck will remain open at its Aledo location for now when not out for events.”
Dough Boy Donuts, located in Burleson at 291 W. Hidden Creek Parkway, also announced its closure due to owner Melvin Roberson’s health complications.
In a Facebook post, Roberson said that his health complications “…prevent [him] from continuing to run the business to its full potential.”
“I have decided to prioritize my own health and therefore feel this closure will allow me to reset and regain control of my health,” Roberson commented. “I am so grateful for the last nine years and I have felt the love and support from you all.”
The doughnut business started as a food truck, following the “extreme doughnut” craze with flavors such as Fruity Pebbles and Sriracha Maple Bacon, as reported by FWST. They were also featured in the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival in 2021 before moving to Burleson.
