A man from Granbury was killed at a Fort Worth residence on Saturday, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
The incident occurred at 9:20 a.m. in the 2800 block of Meadow Ridge Drive. The victim had been sleeping over at his girlfriend’s house when he was shot.
Per Tarrant County medical records, the victim, 40-year-old Patrick Blow, was shot in the head.
A witness who resides in the home called the police and reportedly told them that her son had shot and killed her boyfriend, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Isaiah Henderson, the witness’ son, has been charged with the shooting and is being held in Tarrant County jail, according to KRLD News Radio 1080.
Fatal shootings in Fort Worth have reportedly been on the rise, NBC 5 DFW reported earlier this month.
Meanwhile, in Dallas, there have been 100 murders committed this year as of June 23, according to the City of Dallas crime analytics dashboard. The majority of murder victims in Dallas in 2023 were black and Hispanic individuals, and that trend appears to be continuing, as shown by the City’s victim demographic data.
This pattern has unfolded within the context of the Dallas Police Department’s ongoing officer shortage. The department only fields around 3,000 officers, even though a prior City analysis claims that roughly 4,000 are necessary to police the jurisdiction properly.
Moreover, DPD’s budget is only $645 million this fiscal year, as the Dallas City Council opted to spend far less taxpayer money on policing than other high-crime municipalities, such as Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles.
