Two employees of the Splendora Independent School District, located about 50 miles northeast of Houston, have been arrested for possession of child pornography.

Anthony Jackson, who worked as a paraprofessional at Splendora High School, was charged with five counts of possessing 50 or more visual depictions of children engaging in sexual conduct, according to Texas Scorecard. The 26-year-old is facing a first-degree felony that is punishable by up to 99 years in prison.

Isaac Silva, 29, worked as a paraprofessional at Peach Creek Elementary, which serves students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Silva was charged with five counts of possessing child pornography, a third-degree felony punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison.

Silva and Jackson are being held in Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond. The men, who reportedly lived together, were arrested on June 6 by Montgomery County Precinct 4 constables, who worked alongside Texas Department of Public Safety investigators and members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

School officials announced that the two employees will remain on leave while law enforcement officers complete their investigation, and the district will also conduct its own investigation.

“Splendora ISD is not currently aware of any misconduct connected to the District, but the District will conduct its own administrative investigation in cooperation with law enforcement,” Superintendent Jeff Burke said in a statement. “Please be assured that the safety and security of our children remain our top priority.”

Earlier this month, a former Texas substitute teacher at Marfa ISD was sentenced to the maximum term of 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography, as reported by The Dallas Express.

The former educator, Sonya Conchita Murillo, reportedly video-recorded herself engaging in sexual acts with a young child. Murillo, who did not have a Texas teaching certificate, was not listed in the state’s “Do Not Hire Registry,” raising concerns about the district’s background checks and security policies.
