Saudi-backed LIV Golf has announced it will travel to North Texas for the first time in September to end its season with the LIV Golf Team Championship.

This year’s event will be held at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton from September 20 to 22. Thirteen teams will compete for a total purse of $50 million, according to LIV Golf.

Maridoe Golf Course can stretch as long as 7,817 yards and will be a challenge for many of the players competing in the tournament. Many Dallas-based professional golfers have opted to practice on the course during their offseason due to the difficulty, per WFAA.

Albert Huddleston, Maridoe Golf Club founder, said in a statement that the club was “pleased” to host the tournament, noting that it is a fantastic location because the course was “designed to be an enjoyable but demanding member’s club while always ready to provide a great test for elite golfers to entertain golf enthusiasts.”

The 13 teams will be ranked, with the top three seeds receiving byes for the first day of head-to-head matchups on Friday. The remaining 10 teams will compete to advance into the second round.

The next two days will then feature similar head-to-head competitions to determine the tournament winner.

LIV Golf commissioner and CEO Greg Norman praised the Dallas-Fort Worth area for having a “great golf tradition” and said that all of the players were looking forward to playing in the upcoming tournament.

“Texas is legendary for producing and hosting great golfers who set a high bar while competing for championships. Our LIV Golf Team Championship at Maridoe Golf Club will be a great experience for our players and all the fans in attendance,” he said, per LIV Golf.

One of the most well-known golfers competing in the tournament will be Bryson DeChambeau, the 35th-ranked golfer in the world. DeChambeau attended Southern Methodist University and is now captain of the Crushers GC.

DeChambeau spoke about the decision and said he was excited to return since the area “holds special significance for me as we make our Dallas debut and our team strives to defend our title in front of a home crowd.”

“I’m excited to play this course and compete in front of Texas fans for our closing event and can’t wait to bring LIV Golf’s electrifying energy and fierce competition to Dallas,” added DeChambeau, according to LIV.
