Mavericks guard Luka Doncic has officially been named to the All-NBA First Team for the fifth consecutive year after a stellar performance during the regular season.
Doncic finished the regular season averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, leading the Mavericks in every category while shooting 48.7% from the field and 38.2% from the three-point line.
In addition to leading the Mavericks in these statistics, Doncic also “led the league in 35-point games (32), 40-point efforts (13), 30-point triple-doubles (16), 35-point triple-doubles (11), 40-point triple-doubles (2) and 20-5-5 games (60),” according to a press release from The Dallas Mavericks.
Doncic also broke multiple Mavericks franchise records by ending the year with 50 games of scoring over 30 points, 21 triple-doubles, and 284 three-point field goals.
A total of 99 voters cast ballots for the All-NBA Teams this year, as Doncic received 98 votes to be placed on the First Team. It remains unclear which voter opted to place him on the ALL-NBA Second Team.
Doncic was recognized earlier in the year as one of the best players in the NBA after finishing in third place for the Most Valuable Player award just behind Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
This selection makes Doncic the third player in NBA history to be named to five All-NBA First Teams before his 26th birthday, joining Tim Duncan and Kevin Durant.
The award also makes Doncic eligible for the NBA’s supermax extension in 2025, which would pay him roughly $346 million over five years. The first year of this contract would likely be worth close to $60 million, with the final year of the contract paying the guard an estimated $79 million, per ESPN.
The Dallas Mavericks now feature two players named to All-NBA Teams in some capacity, as rookie center Dereck Lively II was recently named to the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team.
