The Texas Rangers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Tuesday night, reducing their record to 24-25 through the first 49 games of the season.
While this loss may not significantly impact the Rangers’ standings, with the team still just three games behind the Seattle Mariners for first place in the division, the loss did mark the first time the Rangers have fallen below .500 under Manager Bruce Bochy, per The MLB.
Despite the loss, Bochy told Bally Sports Southwest he is not too concerned since the Phillies have been difficult for any team to deal with this season.
“They’re one of the best teams in baseball right now, that’s how well they’re playing,” he said, per Sports Illustrated.
The Rangers have lost eight of their last 10 games, including a brutal five-game losing streak to the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Guardians.
While some may have concerns about whether the Rangers can bounce back from their slow start to the year, Bochy did not seem worried.
“We gotta keep pushing, that’s all you can do,” he explained, per The MLB.
Bochy also said over the weekend that the Rangers do not “feel pressure” to go on a winning streak due to what they have “been through over the last year.”
“We’re not playing our best baseball right now, but they’ve been resilient for over a year now, and they’ve shown it this year with all of that we’ve gone through,” he added, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The Rangers will now look to their matchup against the Phillies for the second game in this three-game series on Wednesday at 5:40 p.m., where the team will hopefully get back on track with a win.
A win against Philadelphia could help the team to find their groove as the team prepares to play on the road for eight of their next 10 games, with the lone home games coming in a two-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 28 and 29.
