There is a $150,000 reward up for grabs for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of two individuals suspected of robbing a postal carrier.

The carrier was robbed at Spring Valley Road in Addison on May 6 at approximately 1:55 p.m. by two black male suspects, according to a social media post from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) of Fort Worth.

The first suspect was described as possibly in his teens, with fair skin, approximately 5’8″ tall, and wearing a black mask, black jacket, and black pants during the incident. The second suspect was described as also potentially in his teens, with a dark brown complexion, approximately 5’9″ tall, and wearing a black jacket and black pants. He also had short dreadlocks at the time.

Anyone with any information is urged to call USPIS at 877-876-2455 and ask for law enforcement.

Last week’s robbery is just the latest in a string of robberies targeting postal workers across North Texas, as covered by The Dallas Express.

In April, three men from Fort Worth pled guilty after robbing a letter carrier at gunpoint in October of 2023. The men had stolen the arrow key from the postal worker. The key allows access to mail deposited into collection boxes. The thieves also took a postal scanner and keys to the carrier’s official vehicle.

In March, another Fort Worth man robbed a letter carrier, prompting a $150,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, as covered previously by The Dallas Express.

In response to the targeting of postal workers, not just in North Texas but around the country, the National Association of Letter Carriers, a labor group representing postal workers, organized rallies in Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Jacksonville. Those who gathered at the events called for increased protection and steeper penalties for criminals who target postal workers.

There has been an increase of more than 800% in robberies and thefts targeting letter carriers between 2019 and 2023, Frank Albergo, national president of the Postal Police Officer’s Association, previously told CBS News Texas.

Looking at robberies overall in Dallas, there have been 794 incidents this year as of May 12, with hot spots in central and northwestern neighborhoods, according to the City’s crime analytics dashboard. Council Member Omar Narvaez’s District 6 leads with 94 robberies clocked.

The Dallas Police Department’s efforts to curb crime have been hindered by a longstanding officer shortage. Although a City report previously called for around 4,000 officers to keep response times reasonable, DPD fields only around 3,000.

With just $654 million of taxpayer money budgeted for DPD this fiscal year, Dallas City officials have opted to spend considerably less on public safety than other high-crime cities, such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City.
