May is kicking off with the possible return of severe weather across the metroplex.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather warning that starts Wednesday and ends May 7. Though rain is expected, pockets of sunshine are forecasted to break up the gloomy weather.
Beginning the afternoon of May 1, scattered thunderstorms could develop, mainly in Central Texas. Dallas will be partly sunny, but wind gusts as high as 20 mph could occur in the City.
In the evening, widespread thunderstorms are forecasted across North and Central Texas. Damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are the primary threats, though large hail and tornadoes remain possible.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely in Dallas on May 2, mainly starting before 10 a.m. Otherwise, expect partly sunny conditions with a high of around 82.
Storms are possible through the weekend. The most significant risk of severe weather during this period will occur the night of May 2 across Western North Texas.
On May 3, the chance of rain dips to 20%. On May 4, the chance of rain increases to 50%, with the day mostly cloudy and highs approaching 81. Winds could pick up again, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
There is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms on May 5, with a high near 81. Winds from the south-southeast will range from 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching as high as 25 mph. The odds of precipitation and thunder will persist into the evening.
May 6 will be slightly warmer, with a high near 85. There will also be more sunshine in the daytime before the City becomes partly cloudy as evening approaches.
Dallas is forecasted to experience a mostly sunny and warm day on May 7, with a high near 90.
