A Dallas teen is dead after being struck by a vehicle while walking along the 175 service road Monday night.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office issued a traffic alert just after 8 p.m. on April 22 stating that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of 175 and Beltline in southeast Dallas. The office reported that an individual driving a Cadillac SUV had swerved to avoid stalled traffic and hit a 16-year-old boy as he walking on the nearby shoulder, according to Fox 4 KDFW.
The driver stopped after the collision and was cooperative with responding deputies. The teen was transported to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
The identity of the teen and the driver are currently unknown. The incident is still under investigation.
A study using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) found that the city of Dallas is among the most deadly cities for pedestrians. Moreover, over 1,000 citizens recently signed a petition to close Akard Street to traffic following a deadly hit-and-run accident last year, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
