A Dallas-area heating, air maintenance, and installation company is seeing record growth in 2021 due to increased demand for home air cleaners, air purifiers, and UV lights to kill viruses and mold.
According to a press release, 5 Star HVAC Contractors reported a 26% year-over-year increase from 2020 to 2021, with up to 10% attributed to installations relating to clean air.
“It used to be all about air filters and having a good filter, but that’s changed over time,” said Jose Vargas, founder and owner of 5 Star HVAC Contractors. “There’s a few different spots you can install either before the filter or after. If you have a split system, you’ll have either a furnace or electric air handler, and we install it by the fan motor. There’s a lot of new technology coming out and a lot more to keep up with.”
Vargas prefers to install iWave commercial and residential air ionizers for customers who inquire.
“We just really didn’t want to start off with anything new coming out and wanted to keep with the few manufacturers who have been working on clean air for a few years,” he said. “We stuck with them and did some research on them. Of course, I tried a few in my home to see what worked best. The technicians did too. That’s what helped us decide on which ones to offer.”
The iWave blows out positive and negative ions, according to Vargas.
“There’s one for residential and for commercial,” he said. “It catches everything and kills it before it comes out.”
More prosperity is expected in 2022 largely because competitors have closed due to the pandemic, and 5 Star HVAC Contractors persevered and stayed open.
“That helped because a lot of their employees were out looking for work,” he said. “So we put the word out with the local distributor where we buy most of our parts and equipment that we had work. We found a few technicians that way. Just having those technicians available and ready to go really helped us grow.”
According to a press release, Vargas founded 5 Star seven years ago, moved into new East Dallas offices in July, and added two new trucks to meet customer demand.
“Most of our team decided to keep working during the pandemic, and I think that really helped us out,” he said. “We were pretty steady in sending out emails to all of our customer lists and calling them just letting them know how we were keeping our employees safe and how we could keep their home safe as well.”
The new location features a warehouse where a larger selection of parts and equipment is on-hand.
“We can store more parts and equipment for our customers so we can have those available,” he said. “We’ve expanded our hours to 24-hour service so that if anything needs to be replaced or changed out, we should have it there in the warehouse and ready to get it done right away.”
