Walmart is expected to open its fifth Supercenter in Frisco next year, a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing indicates.
The nearly 200,000-square-foot store is planned for 16600 FM 423 — just over three miles from another Walmart Supercenter on the same road. According to the filing, the $13.5 million project will begin around June 11, with a delivery date of August 1, 2025.
That site is anchored by several retailers and restaurants, including Starbucks, IHOP, Verizon, Tailgaters Sports Bar & Grill, Chipotle, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, AT&T, Torchy’s Tacos, and Academy Sports + Outdoors.
“We can confirm the property is owned by Walmart, but we don’t have anything to announce at this time,” company spokesperson Kelsey Bohl said in an email.
USA Today reported in February that Walmart plans to open more than 100 stores over the next five years, as well as remodel hundreds of others. Last year, the company announced the grand re-opening of 117 remodeled stores in 30 states — a $500 million investment. The changes included updated vision centers, expanded pharmacies, interactive displays, and more open floor space.
Meanwhile, the base pay for hourly Walmart employees has increased to more than $18, and store managers’ annual salaries have risen from $117,000 to $128,000, USA Today reported.
Walmart operates more than 10,600 stores and clubs across the world, employing about 2.1 million workers.
The other Frisco Supercenters are at 8555 Preston Road, 355 Stonebrook Pkwy and 16066 State Highway 121.
