After a successful plan to get voters to the polls during the last general election in 2020, several North Texas public transportation agencies plan to offer free rides once again after thousands took advantage of the program.
During certain voting days in upcoming elections, voters will be able to utilize Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), Denton County Transportation Authority, and Trinity Metro to get to their local polling location, according to WFAA.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On this year’s Election Day on Nov. 2, DART will be providing free rides for Dallas County voters via their buses, Paratransit services, the light rail, the Dallas Streetcar, and GoLink neighborhood shuttles to several voting locations. For those using GoLink, the promo code “VOTE21” will allow riders to ride free the entire day on Nov. 2.
Voters will also have free access to the Trinity Railway Express between EBJ Union Station and CentrePort/DFW Airport Station stops.
Riders using DART are not required to show voter registration on Nov. 2, as free rides will be available all day.
In Denton County, voters will be able to take advantage of free service on the A-train commuter rail, the Connect Bus System, the Downtown Denton Transit Center Evening On-Demand, the Lewisville Lakeway On-Demand, and the shuttles at the University of North Texas Campus.
Transportation agencies in Denton County will also not require voters to show their voting registrations.
Tarrant County voters can use Trinity Metro on Election Day and other scheduled voting days. Just bring your voter registration card or ID. Early voting is scheduled for Oct. 18 through Oct. 29.
Free transportation will also be available via the Trinity Metro bus line, ZIPZONE, ACCESS, and Northeast Transportation Services.
