District 12 Council Member Cara Mendelsohn came in first again in The Dallas Derby, three-peating in The Dallas Express’ latest monthly feature.
Mendelsohn retained her status as the most effective Dallas City Council member, with residents giving her an overall score of 8.9 out of 10, per the results from DX’s March “Rate Your Council Member” survey.
Respondents to the monthly survey are asked to rate their council members on a scale of 0-10 based on their performance in crime reduction, homelessness reduction, aggressive panhandling reduction, litter reduction and city cleanliness, street repairs and maintenance, and park maintenance and park cleanliness. Respondents to the survey living in District 12 awarded Mendelsohn her highest marks (9.3 out of 10) for her effectiveness in both the arenas of crime reduction and street repair and maintenance.
Her next highest scores were for her efforts at homelessness reduction and City park maintenance and cleanliness, for which her participating constituents gave her a 9.1 in both categories.
When asked how to rate Mendelsohn on her work in the area of litter reduction and cleanliness in Dallas, her constituents gave her an 8.5. Her lowest score was in reducing aggressive panhandling, for which she received an 8.2.
Year to date, her overall effectiveness score across the three months the Dallas Derby has been in commission was 8.6.
DX reached out to Mendelsohn for comment regarding her high rating relative to her 13 colleagues on the Dallas City Council but did not hear back by press time.
For reference, the council member with the second-highest overall score from the March survey was Council Member Kathy Stewart (District 10), who earned a 4.3.
Survey respondents were also asked to rate Mayor Eric Johnson and soon-to-depart City Manager T.C. Broadnax. Johnson did better than all the council members save for Mendelsohn, receiving a 5 out of 10 overall. Broadnax, however, set to resign in early June after several years at the helm of City services, earned a 1.9. During that period, crime, taxes, and City spending all increased.
Broadnax is expected to be hired as city manager by the City of Austin in a vote scheduled for April 4, The Dallas Morning News reported.
