The National Federation of Independent Business endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday in his race against Rep. Colin Allred.
The business group is a nonprofit founded in 1942 that advocates for policies favoring small businesses. Jeff Burdett, the group’s Texas director, claimed Cruz’s (R-TX) record shows he is an ally to small business owners.
“Senator Ted Cruz has always been a strong champion of free enterprise and small business,” Burdett said. “As a recipient of NFIB’s Guardian of Small Business Award, Senator Cruz has a proven record of defending small business owners.”
“Most notably, we appreciate his support for making the Small Business Deduction permanent and preventing a significant tax increase on Texas small businesses. We must send strong champions of free enterprise like Senator Cruz back to Washington,” he added.
NFIB works on behalf of businesses in all 50 states and in Washington, D.C.
“I am proud to be endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business,” Cruz said. “Since my election to the U.S. Senate, my top priority has been jobs. Small businesses are the backbone of our state and are the largest job creators.”
“They are what make our state one of the most important economic powerhouses in the country. I am proud to represent Texas small businesses each and every day and will continue fighting for Texas’ ideals of a free market and limited government,” he said.
A Marist poll in March found that Cruz leads Allred (D-TX) by 6% among registered Texas voters, with an 8% advantage among independents, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Allred, who has served in the House of Representatives since 2019, struggled with name recognition in the poll, with more than half of respondents saying they did not know who he was. Other polls on the race range from a 14% advantage for Cruz to a tie between the two.
