Residents in Dallas can apply for assistance for rent and utility relief due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Families that are receiving eviction notices will be the priority, as well as individuals within the household who have not had a place of employment for more than 90 days.

The city of Dallas states, “Eligible clients can receive assistance to cover up to 12 months of rent, utilities and/or arrearages with the option for an additional 3 months for housing stability.”

In order to qualify for these programs, the person must reside in the city of Dallas, renting a home, “demonstrate an adverse impact related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” income for the household has to be “less than 80 percent of average median income,” and proof of not receiving assistance during this time from any other source.

Landlords can help their tenants that are falling behind by registering with the city of Dallas as a vendor.

United Way Metropolitan of Dallas is partnered with the city of Dallas to offer other options for rent relief. According to their website, “The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the daily lives of all city of Dallas residents, especially those who have no financial safety net.”

Since the employment rate for residents of the city of Dallas has been as high as 15 percent during the pandemic, United Way created DRAC, the Dallas Rental Assistance Collaborative. Nonprofit organizations have all teamed up with United Way Metropolitan of Dallas to provide help to those in need.

According to Texas Rent Relief, a representative can help assist with completing the application process for their rent relief program, if needed, by calling 1-833-989-7368. If eligible, the Texas Rent Relief Program can help renters with past due bills, starting as far back as March 13th, 2020.
