Venues across the DFW metroplex are prepared and eager to welcome sightseers for next month’s total eclipse.
Texans will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on April 8 as a rare total solar eclipse passes over a large portion of Texas, with DFW directly in the path of totality. This celestial event will be the first time since 1878 that Dallas could claim a prime spot for viewing this historical event, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The City of Dallas announced on March 18 that it is ready to host viewings for the “awe-inspiring phenomenon.” The City has designated transportation methods, safe viewing locations, and collaborations with local businesses to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.
Public locations that will offer viewing events include The Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Downtown Dallas Inc., Frontiers of Flight Museum, Hilton Anatole, and more, according to Visit Dallas.
Residents are also encouraged to watch from neighborhood parks or their yards but are advised to do so only with the proper eyewear.
For those seeking to visit other locations for the event, the City has arranged for extra transportation methods.
“To facilitate access to viewing sites, Dallas has implemented transportation initiatives, including shuttle services and increased public transportation options. Efforts have been made to accommodate individuals of all abilities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for everyone,” read the release.
The City advised viewers to expect increased traffic and delays; however, officials note that they anticipate a “seamless event” for locals and visitors.
“Dallas is ready to welcome visitors from near and far to witness this extraordinary celestial event,” said Travis Houston, interim director for the City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management, in a release.
“We have worked tirelessly to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience for all, and we look forward to sharing this momentous occasion with the world,” added Houston.
Fort Worth will also provide several designated viewing locations for the eclipse. According to a press release, events will be held at the Fort Worth Library, Fort Worth Botanic Garden, the Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth Golf, community centers, and more.
