Jool Baby is recalling tens of thousands of infant swings due to a potential suffocation hazard.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that the company was recalling these infant swings on March 7. The recall affects approximately 63,100 units, which were described as gray and measuring “28 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 24 inches high,” per the recall notice.
The swings were manufactured between June 2022 and September 2023 and sold through vendors such as Walmart, Target, and Amazon, among others. Officials initiated the recall due to the potential of suffocation and alleged violations of several safety regulations.
“The swings pose a suffocation risk because they were marketed, intended, or designed for infant sleep, and they have an incline angle greater than 10 degrees in violation of the CPSC’s Infant Sleep Products Regulation and the Safe Sleep for Babies Act. In addition, the swing fails to meet mandatory warning requirements regarding sleep under the swing standard,” read the announcement from the CPSC.
No reports of injury or suffocation have been reported.
Customers in possession of these swings are advised to stop using them for their sleeping babies. They can contact the company to receive a repair kit free of charge.
Jool Baby announced that it would be updating its products to indicate that they are not intended for sleep in accordance with the CPSC’s Safe Sleep for Babies Act.
“You can continue using the Nova Swing to help keep your baby entertained and engaged. However, if your baby falls asleep while in the swing, remove baby and place on a firm, flat surface such as a crib or bassinet. Using the Nova Swing or any product with an angle above 10 degrees is not safe for sleep,” said the company on its website.
Upon registration, customers can receive repair kits, complete with a new seat with updated warning labels, an updated remote control, and updated charms, within two to four weeks.
