Thousands of pounds of steamed dumpling products are being recalled due to possible contamination of hard plastics.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation is recalling units of its 6-oz. boxes of “TRADER JOE’S Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings” on March 2. Officials decided to enact the recall after customer complaints of hard plastics found in the food.

FSIS officials believe the hard plastic may have come from a permanent marker pen. The recall affects about 61,839 pounds of the product produced on December 7, 2023, and shipped to Trader Joe’s locations across the nation. Lot codes affected by this recall are “03.07.25.C1-1” and “03.07.25.C1-2.”

Although this recall is recognized as a class I recall, indicating a “reasonable probability of serious, adverse health consequences” or even death, no such reports associated with consuming the product have been received.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” per the FSIS notification.

This is the most recent of several recalls regarding food products contaminated by plastic fragments. The FSIS reported a similar recall in September of 2023 for 245,366 pounds of Banquet chicken strip entrees, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
