Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley took multiple shots at former President Donald Trump over the last few days, claiming he would be unable to defeat President Joe Biden if elected as the Republican Party’s candidate.
While speaking with reporters on Monday, Haley criticized the former president and noted that the “incumbent did not win 40% of the vote” in the South Carolina Republican primary.
“So, what you are looking at is something is shifting and this has been happening for a while,” she said, per ABC News.
Haley warned that she is trying to give the Republican Party “every red flag I possibly can about the direction that the country is going.”
“Now I just need people to hear it. I need states that are voting to act on it. And I need to see that we can stop this sinking ship before it takes off,” she said, per ABC News.
These comments come shortly after Trump easily won the South Carolina primary by receiving 59.8% of the votes, while Haley managed to receive 9.5% of the votes, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Haley, while campaigning in Grand Rapids, Michigan, criticized Trump and said he is “turning the Republican Party into his own playpen.”
“The idea that those now moving into the RNC are saying the RNC is only going to be about Donald Trump – you can hang up House, you can hang up Senate and the rest of the ticket,” Haley added, per Fox News.
The former president has also taken shots at Haley, saying after the New Hampshire primary that she should drop out and he will not allow her to “get away with bulls**t.”
“If she doesn’t drop out, we have to waste money instead of spending it on Biden, which is our focus,” Trump said, according to The Hill.
While Haley has claimed that the former president would be unable to defeat Biden in the general election, polling indicates that Trump currently holds a 1% advantage over the current president, according to 270ToWin.
