After completing an $11.3 million project to develop its new home in McKinney, Tupps Brewery is expected to open in March.

“The intent of this move was this is our forever home,” co-founder Keith Lewis told Dallas Business Journal. “We don’t want to do this again — we’ll be able to grow into it.”

Leaving its current site on Anderson Street, Tupps has moved operations to the old McKinney Grain property on East Louisiana Street, where a 24,000-square-foot brewery building has been constructed and a 2,435-square-foot building has been added to an existing 7,235-square-foot facility that will be used as a tap room.

“We outgrew the spot from a production standpoint,” Lewis told DBJ. “We couldn’t brew any more beer than we were.”

Tupps began brewing about nine years ago, producing three beers, DBJ reported. On February 17, it won bronze and silver medals at the Texas Craft Brewers Cup.

“This move will include remodeling a 120-year-old grain mill, a new state of the art 25,000 sq. ft. production brewery and a retail craft community shopping area that will be housed in grain bins,” according to the company’s website. “The total project will encompass over 40,000 sq. ft. of buildings on a 4 acre spread.”

At the Louisiana Street location, the grain site gives Tupps “the ability to expand on the rustic, unique and laid-back vibe our customers have grown to love,” the website says. “This site will have a large outdoor stage that will host live music and theater performances.”

DBJ reported that Tupps produced about 11,000 barrels of beer last year, and that the new facility will increase production capacity to about 50,000 barrels.
