The Dallas Express has launched “The Dallas Derby,” a bi-monthly feature that showcases how well Dallas City Council members are performing when it comes to some of the issues facing the city.
Derby results are based on DX’s monthly “Rate Your Council Member” survey, which asks Dallas residents to rate their council members on a 0-10 scale, with 8-10 color coded green to signify exceptionally effective, 5-7 color coded yellow to signify moderately effective, and 0-4 colored coded red signifying wholly ineffective.
The scores council members get for each question are then averaged. Those scores can be seen by hovering over the council members’ names on the Derby graphic.
Rankings are then based on an averaging of the six question scores for an overall score for the month. The winner of the Derby each month will be the council member with the highest average score.
Additionally, DX will be tracking council members’ performance across the year, providing our readers with a year-to-date average score, which will also be featured on the Derby graphic.
This feature will also include running scores for Mayor Eric Johnson and City Manager T.C. Broadnax, however, the two are not eligible to win the Derby.
Respondents are asked to rate their council members based on the following questions:
- How well do you think your City Council Member is performing in the area of crime reduction?
- How well do you think your City Council Member is performing in the area of homelessness reduction?
- How well do you think your City Council Member is performing in the area of aggressive panhandling reduction?
- How well do you think your City Council Member is performing in the area of litter reduction and city cleanliness?
- How well do you think your City Council Member is performing in the area of street repair and maintenance?
- How well do you think your City Council Member is performing in the area of city park maintenance and cleanliness?
