Elon Musk is planning to build a new SpaceX office complex in South Texas.
The enigmatic billionaire will soon break ground on the SpaceX Starbase Office, a roughly 330,000-square-foot complex. The work includes adding five levels of office mezzanine as an addition to an approximately 1 million square foot special use industrial factory, according to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The Starbase Office project is expected to break ground on February 23 in Brownsville, Texas, near SpaceX’s launch site at Boca Chica Beach. The facility is called the Space Exploration Technologies Corp. and will cost approximately $100 million to build, according to the filing. The project is scheduled for completion on January 1, 2025.
The Starbase Office complex is Musk’s latest project planned for the Lone Star State.
From 2020 to 2023, Musk purchased several thousand acres of land in South Texas near Boca Chica Beach as part of his growth plans for SpaceX, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Since then, Musk has continued to invest and expand his business operations in Texas.
Another project Musk is pursuing in Texas is a new STEM university in Austin. The new school will begin with a primary and secondary school, but “intends ultimately to expand its operations to create a university dedicated to education at the highest levels,” reported Bloomberg. Musk is planning a $100 million investment in the new university through his charity called “The Foundation.”
On February 15, SpaceX plans to launch its Falcon 9 rocket into space on a lunar mission. The rocket will carry the Intuitive Machines’ Odysseus moon lander, which is carrying NASA instruments along with several commercial payloads.
