Bonton Farms and Kroger are teaming up to provide a no-delivery fee, online grocery ordering and pickup service called Grocery Connect.

According to the Grocery Connect website, the program will help leverage a “network of community service centers” to help bring fresh and nutritious food to low-income urban neighborhoods. The program also intends to help families save time and money on grocery shopping.

Last year, The Dallas Express reported on the opening of the Food Basket in East Oak Cliff. The supermarket near the University of North Texas Dallas campus helped fill an alleged void in the community. The store replaced a previous supermarket, Save U More, which carried fewer fresh and healthy items.

South Dallas Fair Park Innercity Community Development Corporation (ICDC), located at 4907 Spring Ave., will host the community’s first Grocery Connect ordering and pickup point. After placing an order, customers can pick up their groceries during a window running every Tuesday between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Shoppers using the Southern Dallas fulfillment center will be treated to the exact pricing as shoppers at in-store Kroger locations, with no additional delivery or service charges.

“Our refrigerated fleet will ensure that the groceries arrive fresh and the ice cream will remain frozen, all with no delivery fees for Grocery Connect shoppers,” said Kroger Dallas Division president Keith Shoemaker.

In addition to the ICDC’s already open location, two more fulfillment centers are expected at the Dallas Bethlehem Center this spring and a third at Bonton Farms later in the fall.
